Outdoor furniture whose versatile structure allows the use of deckchairs, screens and tents at the same time.

Medusea_pict_A01

The idea was inspired by an experiment in holiday. We had spent the afternoon on a beach with no hotel infrastructure in the vicinity. Only a deckchair rental company was doing business. In the evening, we offered to rent him two deckchairs for the night. The next day we woke up at sunrise. The only drawback was that the wind during the night had swept the sand into our sleeping bag. This anecdote to demonstrate that an object can have several uses: A deckchair during the day, a bed at night.

Below you will find an overview of the advantages and qualities of the project.
The project has been registered and is looking for a partnership for its development.

Plastic vs Canvas

Plastic (PVC)

The basic version is offered with a PVC shell. This shell is made up of 3 parts that can be unfolded and folded on a central axis. Once closed, the unit can be secured with a key lock.

Waterproof canvas

Alternative version with tarpaulin structure (6 parts) and metal frame.

Variable heights

Minimum height of 55 cm

Base height of 70 cm

Maximum height of 80 cm

Protection

Sun

The tabletop can be rotated on a central axis in order to look for shadow on a part of the seat when it is uncovered. For complete protection, the hull can be closed in 3 parts (PVC hull) or 6 parts (tarpaulin structure).

Wind

Just like the sun, we can protect ourselves from the wind. The plateau is raised on 4 feet allowing the wind to circulate above as well as below. When it is placed in the sand, it does not gather as it could at the foot of the screens.

Rain

In case of rain, it is a waterproof shelter in which one can take shelter as in a tent of the same size. Finally, it is an impregnable castle for crawling and other insects.

Variable inclinations

Plane

The 4 feet are articulated around an axis.

Sloping

They can be oriented independently of each other so that, on uneven ground, the axis of the feet can be adapted so that the tabletop is perfectly flat.

Sloping with water

If the ground is too uneven or has a steeper slope, feet of different lengths can be used. This flexibility makes it possible to adapt to the environment. Unlike conventional deckchairs and tents, which require a flat surface.

Technical features

Below view

Except for the iron fittings and the rotation axis (placed in the central axis), the assembly is made of wood.

Measures

The total height is 180 cm. The circumference of the widest base is 220 cm in diameter. The height of the tray is 70 cm. The height under the ceiling inside the hull is 110 cm.

Assembly

The bottom plate slides into the central axis. The 4 legs slide into the notches at the 4 corners of the central axis. Each leg is made of two parts (of identical size) assembled by a nut and notches to adjust the height.

Applications

Home

Placed in the garden, this furniture can be used as much as a deckchair, a relaxation space (a box to isolate oneself) as well as a recreational space for children (a spaceship?), in the same way as a hut in the trees.

Oasis

Placed on the dunes, around an oasis, this set of furniture could accommodate a group of walkers for the night or simply serve as shelter during sandstorms. The principle of the raised platform provides shelter from scorpions and snakes.

Hotel

A series of furniture that can be used as deckchairs around a swimming pool or along the beach.

In the evening, a lighting of the white PVC hull (by diodes mounted on the perimeter of the hull) can give an atmosphere and change these deckchairs into an armchair with a luminous alcove.

Littoral

Installation of a dozen pieces of furniture “on horseback” on the dunes and on the beach like a group of jellyfish-crabs moving between land and sea. An independent interior bluish lighting (diode lantern) will give in the evening an image of a luminous half-sphere.

On the Belgian coast there is often an unpleasant wind despite the sunny weather. This type of furniture would allow you to shelter from the wind while enjoying the sun.
